Reflection

My journey as an International Scholar has been a transformative odyssey, shaping my worldview, fostering personal growth, and igniting a passion for global citizenship and social change. Through this program, I have navigated diverse cultures, confronted challenges head-on, and emerged as a more empathetic, resilient, and culturally competent individual.

One of the most profound lessons I learned as an International Scholar is the value of embracing diversity and fostering intercultural understanding. As I immersed myself in new environments, I discovered that genuine connections transcend linguistic and cultural barriers, enriching my interactions with people from all walks of life. Whether conversing with locals in Lima, backpacking through Europe, or organizing philanthropic initiatives, I learned to approach each encounter with an open mind and a willingness to listen and learn. This experience has been invaluable in broadening my perspective and deepening my appreciation for the complexities of our interconnected world.

The International Scholar Program has strengthened every facet of my life, from my academic pursuits to my personal development. By immersing myself in diverse cultures and communities, I have honed my cross-cultural communication skills and expanded my cultural competency. These experiences have not only enriched my academic studies but have also equipped me with the tools to navigate an increasingly globalized world with confidence and empathy.

Throughout my journey as an International Scholar, I encountered numerous challenges, from logistical hurdles to cultural misunderstandings. However, each obstacle presented an opportunity for growth and learning. When faced with adversity, I learned to adapt, persevere, and seek creative solutions. Whether it was overcoming language barriers during my time in Peru or navigating unfamiliar customs while backpacking through Europe, I embraced each challenge as an opportunity to test my resilience and resourcefulness.

One of the most significant risks I took as an International Scholar was founding "The Ashima Project" in my hometown of Lima, Peru. While the endeavor was rewarding, it also posed logistical and organizational challenges. However, through careful planning, perseverance, and collaboration with local communities, I was able to overcome these obstacles and make a meaningful impact on the lives of underprivileged children.

My experiences as an International Scholar have demonstrated my strengths and talents in leadership, empathy, and problem-solving. Whether spearheading philanthropic initiatives, navigating unfamiliar cultures, or advocating for social change, I have consistently demonstrated a commitment to making a positive difference in the world. These experiences have reaffirmed my passion for global citizenship and social justice and have equipped me with the skills and confidence to pursue my aspirations with purpose and conviction.

Looking ahead, my UF and ISP global learning experiences serve as a foundation for my post-graduation pursuits in both my personal and professional life. Academically, my studies in International Studies with an emphasis on Latin America and the Caribbean have provided me with a deep understanding of global issues and dynamics, laying the groundwork for a career in international development and advocacy. Professionally, my experiences as an International Scholar have equipped me with the cross-cultural communication skills, resilience, and empathy needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. Moreover, my philanthropic endeavors in Peru have inspired me to continue giving back to my community and pursuing initiatives that promote social equity and educational access. In essence, my UF and ISP experiences have not only shaped my academic and professional trajectory but have also instilled in me a lifelong commitment to global citizenship and social responsibility.
